Clan war decks: how to build four with no repeats

Clan war asks for something no other mode does: four decks at once, with no card shared between them. Here is how to plan them, and what the data from real clan war battles shows about the decks players actually use.

Numbers updated November 7, 2026.

The rule: four decks, 32 different cards

On a Clan War battle day you have four decks, and a card you play in one battle cannot be used again that day. In practice that means four decks with no card in common: 32 different cards in total. A card that appears in two of your war decks locks one of them out after your first battle.

That single rule changes how decks are built. Your best cards can each go to only one deck, so the question is not "what is the best deck" but "what are the best four decks I can build together".

War decks look nothing like ladder decks

Because no card can be repeated, war spreads players across far more decks than ranked play. In the week to November 7, 2026, the 20 most played clan war decks together accounted for 7.5% of the 30,116 war players we saw. In the top Path of Legends league, the 20 most played decks covered 37.5%. The single most played war deck (Hog Rider) was run by 1.0% of war players.

The mix of archetypes shifts as well. Among the top war decks: Cycle/Control 34.3%, Bait/Special 21.0%, Mixed 19.8%. Among the top ranked decks: Cycle/Control 45.7%, Mixed 23.1%, Bait/Special 10.5%. Their average elixir is 3.2 in war against 3.3 in ranked.

The lesson: copying four meta decks rarely works. They share the same popular cards. Try it with this week's 20 most played war decks: taking them in order and skipping any deck that shares a card with one already taken, only three fit together (Hog Rider, #1; Battle Ram, #6; Graveyard, #9). The fourth deck has to be built from what is left.

The cards every war deck wants

Some cards turn up in war deck after war deck, and you can only use each once. These appeared in the most of the 20 most played war decks this week:

Decide early which deck gets each of them. Giving all your favourites to the first deck is how the fourth ends up unplayable.

Build the decks in order

  1. Pick four win conditions first. One per deck, all different, ideally from different archetypes so they do not compete for the same support cards: a Hog Rider deck, a beatdown deck, a bait deck and a bridge spam deck share far less than four cycle decks.
  2. Share out the spells. Every deck needs two, so four decks need eight different spells, and the best ones run out quickly. The most played spells today are Barbarian Barrel, Arrows, Zap, Fireball, The Log, Tornado, Lightning, Poison; list which deck gets which before choosing troops.
  3. Give each deck a defence. Buildings and air defence are the next things to run short. Count them across all four decks.
  4. Fill the rest by level. With the structure in place, use your highest-level remaining cards. A balanced deck at good levels beats a perfect one with weak cards.
  5. Check the weakest deck. Each of your four battles counts for your clan. Improving your fourth deck usually gains more than polishing the first.

Common mistakes

Let the builder share the cards out

Planning 32 cards by hand takes a while. The ClashDeckster war deck builder reads your collection, builds the four decks around different win conditions with no card repeated, and lets you lock in any deck you already play. The weekly meta report shows which clan war cards are rising and falling.

Questions

Can you use the same card in two clan war decks?

No. A card played in a war battle cannot be used again that day, so your four war decks need 32 different cards.

How many decks do you need for clan war?

Four, one for each battle you can play on a battle day.

Are clan war decks different from ladder decks?

Yes. The 20 most played war decks cover 7.5% of war players, against 37.5% for the top 20 in the top Path of Legends league: the no-repeat rule spreads players over many more decks.

Which deck should get my best cards?

Give each deck one strong win condition and share your best spells and support cards so that no deck is left without a defence. Your weakest deck matters as much as your best.
